History & Origin
Hajer is a spelling of Hajar, the Arabic form of the name known in English as Hagar. In Islamic tradition, Hajar is the wife of Ibrahim and the mother of Isma'il; left in the barren valley of Mecca, she ran between the hills of Safa and Marwa seeking water, and the well of Zamzam opened for her son. Pilgrims re-enact her search in the sa'i of the Hajj to this day. She also appears in the book of Genesis. The name is given with reverence, and we note it with respect (said 'HAH-jur').
It is very rare in the U.S., far better known across the Arab world. Honoured, resilient, and enduring.
