Ethin

History & Origin

Ethin is a respelling of Ethan, from the Hebrew Eitan, meaning 'firm', 'strong', or 'enduring'. Ethan became hugely popular in recent decades, and pared spellings such as Ethin appeared as families sought a distinctive version of a familiar name.

Ethin itself was always rare, given to only a few dozen boys a year around its peak in the mid two-thousands. A boy named Ethin then is still young today, so the name reads as a recent respelling rather than a revival of anything older.
