History & Origin
Sueann is a mid-century compound of Sue, short for Susan (Hebrew Shoshannah, 'lily'), and Ann (from Hannah, 'grace'). The one-word spelling belonged to the postwar fashion for double first names, especially in the South. It reached its high around 1967 at close to a hundred girls a year.
Sueann faded after the nineteen-sixties as double names went out of style, and reads today as a mother-or-grandmother name of that era. The open form 'Sue Ann' remains familiar; the fused Sueann is its period one-word variant, joining two of the most traditional girls' names of the twentieth century.
