History & Origin
Shakita is a modern coinage built from the Sha- prefix and the -kita ending. The Sha- element was enormously productive in African-American naming of the later twentieth century, and Shakita is one of its many bright, rhythmic products, made for sound rather than any dictionary root.
Shakita was most common around 1986 and had faded by the early two-thousands. A woman named Shakita at the peak is in her late thirties today. It is a distinctly eighties invention and has not been revived.
