History & Origin
Rosabella is a compound of Latin rosa, 'rose', and bella, 'beautiful' — a construction in the same family as the older Rosabel and Rosabelle, which English poets and novelists used from the eighteenth century onward. Sir Walter Scott set a melancholy ballad about a maiden named Rosabelle in his Lay of the Last Minstrel (1805).
The full -bella form gained new life as Isabella and Bella soared in the twenty-first century, inviting parents to extend other favorites the same way. Rosabella remains a rare, frilly choice — a name with built-in nicknames from Rosa to Bella.
