Quintyn

History & Origin

Quintyn is a contemporary spelling of Quentin, and of the closely related Quinton, all descended from the Latin Quintus, meaning 'fifth'. Romans gave such names by birth order, and the medieval Saint Quentin carried the form into Europe; the -yn ending here is a modern stylistic twist.

As a distinct spelling Quintyn was never common, reaching only a few dozen boys a year around its peak in the late two-thousands. A boy named Quintyn then is still young today, so the name reads as a fresh respelling of a very old root rather than a vintage revival.
