Nastassia is a Slavic form of Anastasia, one of the great names of Eastern Christianity. It comes from the Greek anastasis, 'resurrection, rising again,' and was given by early Christians with the feast of Easter in mind; Saint Anastasia is venerated in both the Orthodox and Catholic churches. In Russian and Belarusian the name shortens to Nastya and appears as Nastasya and Nastassia, and it travelled westward with Slavic families. We present the Greek root honestly (said 'nuh-STAH-see-uh').
