History & Origin
Mikki is a pet form of Michaela or Michelle, feminines of Michael, from Hebrew Mikha'el, 'who is like God?' Given as a stand-alone name in the mid-twentieth century, it belonged to the era's fashion for snappy -i endings. It reached its modest high around 1962 at close to a hundred girls a year.
Mikki thinned after the nineteen-sixties as the elaborate Michaela and Michelle themselves took over. It reads today as a spirited mid-century nickname-name of the mother-and-grandmother generation, in the same set as Vikki and Nikki, and it has not returned in force.
