History & Origin

Eymi renders the English name Amy the way it sounds to Spanish-speaking ears — a pattern also seen in names like Yeimy and Eymi's many sister spellings across Latin America. Amy itself descends from Old French amee, 'beloved', from Latin amata, and was carried to England by the Normans.

Amy became an Anglo-American staple thanks in part to Louisa May Alcott's Little Women and a huge mid-century revival; as Hispanic communities in the U.S. embraced the sound, phonetic respellings like Eymi began appearing on American birth certificates. Eymi remains a rare, contemporary take on a long-loved classic.
