How to Pronounce Elnore
Pronounced EL-nor /ˈɛlnɔːr/Medium
Meaning: Elnore is a squeezed spelling of Eleanor, itself from the Old Provencal Alienor. The meaning is uncertain and much debated; a common gloss ties the second part to Latin lumen and reads it as 'light', though this is folk etymology rather than proven.Low

History & Origin
Elnore is one of many casual respellings of Eleanor, a name the Provencal noblewoman Alienor of Aquitaine carried to England. Families writing by ear collapsed the three-syllable Eleanor into the tighter Elnore or Elnora.
Elnore was never common, drawing only a couple dozen girls a year even at its high around 1916 and disappearing by the nineteen-forties. It reads now as a plain-spoken country respelling of a grand old name; a girl called it then would be of a great-grandmother's generation.
