Bastian is a short form of Sebastian, from Greek Sebastianos (of Sebastos, a Greek word for 'venerable, revered,' also used as the Greek equivalent of the Latin title Augustus). Saint Sebastian (d. c.288 CE) was an early Christian martyr.
