History & Origin
Arnitra is an American coinage in the Arnetta and Arnita family, taking the Arn- element and closing it with a sharp -tra sound. Feminine Arn- names circulated among Black American families through the mid-twentieth century, and Arnitra is a 1970s reworking of that pattern. It first appears in United States birth records around 1973 and touched a small high around 1976.
It was never common, given to only a couple dozen girls a year even at its peak, and had faded by the late 1980s. A girl named Arnitra then would be nearing fifty today.
