Aidden

History & Origin

Aidden is one of many respellings of Aiden, an anglicization of the Irish Aodhan, a diminutive of Aodh, an old Irish name meaning 'fire' (and the name of a Celtic sun god). Aiden exploded in American popularity in the two-thousands, and spellings such as Aidden, Aidan and Ayden multiplied.

This particular spelling was always uncommon - only a few dozen boys a year at its peak in the early twenty-tens - and reads as a late-millennial variant. Aiden and Aidan remain the familiar forms, while Aidden has stayed a minor spelling.
