Cooking Kids - Chefs in the Making

The idea of having their kids cooking in the kitchen may prove to be a scary thought for some parents that might be imagining scenarios involving a lot of blood and wailing. However, for kids, cooking is an activity that many of them find interesting and fun. How to plan a family friendly vacation

Editorial Comment: with summer here and families taking vacation I may be a little late in posting this article. Finding a vacation that we suite everyones needs is a daunting task indeed. Especially with a large family. I found this article that I hope will be of interest. It outline 5 places that are family friendly and have things to do that will suite a wide variety of interests. I hope you enjoy.

Planning a family vacation that will suit everyone’s taste is not easy. Generally the younger kid wants one to do one thing, the other wants to do another, while the parents have their own preferences. Keeping everyone satisfied may be difficult, but it’s not impossible.

Personalize This Christmas With a Personalized Childrens Gift

Princess personalized bookPersonalized gifts add a little something to any Christmas, Birthdays, or just about any special occassion. Not only do they help a child to feel special but they also become a worthwhile and cherished memory.

There are a number of personalized gifts for kids that can be given but music and books help to provide a lasting memory that is not just a treasured possession but can have educational benefits as well.

Getting your child to read can be a difficult challenge especially in the day and age of video games, computers and loads of television programming. Personalized books can be a fun way to get your child interested in reading along with their favorite characters. Your child’s name is placed within the text of each story making them feel like an active part of the adventure and getting them interested in reading. This can provide not only hours of quality time and a love of reading but also an increase in academic awareness that can help your child throughout their life as they learn to read. Personalized books can also help with name recognition, which is an important part, and step to self-awareness in children.

Tips for Family Cruises

mom and daughter on a cruise together enjoying the jacuzzi and viewby Stacey Schifferdecker

My mother-in-law has been talking about for years – taking my family and my sister-in-law’s family for a cruise. But the timing never worked out until now. This year, for the first time ever, my children’s schools and my nephews’ schools have spring break the same week. So hi-ho, hi-ho, it’s off to Mexico we go. I am a vacation planner junky, so naturally I am hip-deep in research about the best way to enjoy our cruise and keep six kids ranging in age from 7 (the only girl) to 14 happy and healthy for a week. So here is what I have learned – check back with me in March to see how the reality lives up to the research.

Which Cruise Line to Choose?
Which cruise line to choose was the first question we had. Of course, your departure location helps narrow this choice. Unless you have unlimited time and money for your vacation, you will likely choose the departure port that is nearest your home. The major ports for cruise ship departures in North America are

Tips to Help Your Child Overcome Disappointment

father comforting his daughterIf there is one lesson that no parent enjoys teaching their child it is the art of getting over disappointment. This is partly because no one likes to be disappointed, have their hopes shattered, but it is a raw and honest part of life. Figuring out how to teach our children this can be difficult though, you don’t want them to give up or lose heart. It is important that as we teach our children to cope with disappointment, how important it is to keep trying.

Here are a few to help you teach your child how to cope with, how to overcome disappointments in life, and to grow from experience.

Offer Love and Support
Think about how you feel when things do not go the way you expected or wanted. You feel down and depressed. Your child feels the same way, what they need to know is that they are not alone, that even though they feel down and sad, they are not alone. Offer them a hug, listen to them as they tell you what has happened. DO NOT judge, or blow off what they are saying.

What are the Best Preschool Games?

childrens board games With winter just around the corner you can’t take your kids outside or to the park as often as you would like. We don’t want our kids sitting around the TV or playing computer games all day. Preschoolers and those just starting school have more energy than most parents. It’s just a natural fact. To help occupy them you may want to find games they can play indoors.

If you’re like most parents, you remember playing board games with your brothers and sisters, maybe even your parents. Back when I was a kid there were no computers. This was before nights where families played games together became known as “Family Fun Night” or “Family Game Night”. You may remember hours spent playing Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, Boggle, or Sorry. Maybe your family had Operation for when you got older, then you most likely graduated to games like Monopoly, Scrabble, or Trivial Pursuit.

Those games are still around if you want to share them with your children, but you may also want to find newer games to play with them. Here are a few of the best games for preschoolers or those just beginning school that are recommended by experts and parents alike:

Top 10 Tips for Raising Your Childs Self Esteem

by Jennifer Shakeel

happy self confident childIn today’s society it is hard for an grown adult to have high self esteem, so imagine what it is like for a child. Bombarded by images on television, in magazines, billboards as well as the radio that very few people can live up to. It is important that we are teaching our children how to like who they are as people. Liking yourself is what self esteem is.

There are a number of books you can read and books that you can get for your child that all talk about self esteem and how to improve it, but if you are interested in what works the best then you need to take a look at what you are doing as a parent. The best role model in the world is you. How you talk to your child, and respond to what they say has a huge impact on their level of self esteem.

I will never forget the day that my daughter came home and asked me if I thought she was fat. I asked her why she would ever think she was fat, “I don’t look like Britney Spears.” I looked at her and told her that she was an absolutely beautiful 5 year old that had way more going for her then Miss Britney did, and so far I have been right. Yes, I said five years old… she was in kindergarten. It broke my heart really.

Make a Joyful Noise: Singing in a Community Children’s Choir

by Patricia Guth
For many children throughout the world, one of the joys of childhood involves singing in a community children’s choir. Most children love to sing, including both boys and girls (boys don’t inherit the “singing is sissy” gene until about 7th grade!), and singing in an ensemble is a great way to enhance your child’s musical education.

Fourth of July Festivities for the Entire Family

Happy 4th of July!

From all of us here at More4kids, Happy 4th of July. The Fourth of July celebrates the birth of the United States of America. Founded July 4th 1776, with the signing of the Declaration of Independence, America is celebrating its 232nd birthday this year (2008).

It is a time for families and friends not only to come together and have fun, but also a time to honor our Veterans and men and women who are putting their lives in danger every day for us, and those who have made the biggest sacrifice for our freedom with their lives. Try to throw your politics aside, and let us all take a moment to think about, and be grateful to all who wear the American uniform, and to our police and firefighters who protect us day in and out. They all deserve our recognition and thanx, more than we can put in words. And don’t forget the spouses and families of those in uniform. It takes very special people to be part of a military family, and our hearts, thanx, and recognition should go out to them too.

No matter whether you travel across the country to celebrate our nation’s birthday, or decide to stay at home in your own backyard, there are many different ways to make this a very special holiday.

All that is needed for a fantastic Fourth are three key ingredients:

1. A Plan
2. Preparation
3. and much, much Enthusiasm.

We’ll provide the plan to get you started!

Ready? Set?

Not lets get the ball on the road and get going!

Waterpark Fun: Make a big SPLISH SPLASH this summer!

By Michelle Donaghey

kids making a big splash on a waterslideNo doubt about it! We love waterparks, whether they are indoor or outdoor ones!
“Waterparks appeal to families who want quality recreation time in an extremely safe environment. After all, waterparks are the safest place to have fun in the water compared to oceans, rivers, lakes and even swimming pools,” noted Gina Kellogg, Director of Communications for the World Waterpark Association, Overland Park, Kansas. In fact, there ware more than 1,000 waterparks in North America with an estimated attendance each season over 70 million people.
“For families who want a safe place to place in the water that’s also really convenient, then, waterparks are the perfect answer,” noted Kellogg.
The reasons?
For families, one of the most obvious reasons for our love is that the rides are very similar to roller coaster rides found in top-notch amusement parks. Some of them include:
