The film does specifically what John Carpenter has done with all his other films, makes you watch it until the final seconds to get the answers. Its no wonder it went straight to DVD if anyone had wasted there time and money going to see this crap at a theater they wouldn't have walked out but RAN. The Acting is also much more on par for a teen horror flick than an adult thriller, which makes the R Rating a little out of place, 10 a lot more minutes in the editing room, and this could have been pg-13 simply, even as it stands, I don't know that I would have given it an R. The Ward HD" is in no way boring. I feel somehow the rest of my city knew the top quality of this film except me and few other unfortunates. Third, there was no sense of urgency or suspense. People who love John Carpenter may well have expected a lot more fireworks but give the man a break,he has made really a few masterpieces already. It's just an additional routine 'ghost in the asylum' film that's been done so many times recently, nothing original here at all. I enjoy Carpenter, The Fog, Halloween, Huge Trouble In Little China, This was Shutter Island but with girls and as bad, just the worse load of tripe, so slow and predictable, should be called The Bored not The Ward. Carpenter is in his element here, making a memorable Scary Place with atmospheric tracks down ominous corridors and tight crawlspaces. Is she losing her mind, and what terrible secret are the other inmates keeping from her. Also, the trouble with having a slow first half is that the second half seems to address the failure to create any real tension or mystery and as a result turns to a lot more action-filled slasher territory. This film is vintage Carpenter full of low-cost jumps, dark hallways and an extremely creepy searching ghost. It was like watching Sucker Punch with 60s clothing and no action. For the story we can come to the same conclusion.
