We used a moving company that charged per foot of space in a huge truck. They would put a dividing wall in between the various shared destinations. It wasn’t too expensive. They did have a breakdown and a one day delay in getting to us but other than that it was a good experience and they did load it for us.

I found my Mom’s pregnancy and baby journal recently. She had passed several years ago and I didn’t know that it existed. It was an amazing experience reading the thoughts and joys of my parents and the attention and love that they had for me. The journal isn’t just for you, many years later, your children or grandchildren may be reading it.

I think sometimes kids need artificial support. That support may seem off at first but consider training wheels, they are removed after a while. Also we support young trees with poles and wires. I say bribe em. I paid my young kids $1 for every book they read. Pretty soon they were little bookworms who didn’t ask for money. By the way, they both…[Read more]

Alex started the topic Modeling Christ to Your Children in the forum Christian Parenting 5 years, 10 months ago
I think that one of the most important things in Christian parenting is to show undeserved grace. This does not mean letting everything go without correction, but it is important to show a favor that isn’t deserved. After all, if we believe that God basically said, “Hey, I am going to step on the stage of the world knowing that they will kill me…[Read more]

Alex replied to the topic How to get your kids to read? in the forum Parenting 5 years, 10 months ago
I paid them to read when they were young. They would ask, “Daddy, how much is this book?” I would sort of weigh it and flip through the pages. “That one is $1.50”. They turned into little bookworms. Later they stopped asking me for a price and just read. It worked. Both my girls tested at college level in reading when they were 9 years old. I recommend it.

Alex replied to the topic When the going gets rough, what do you do to relieve stress? in the forum Parenting 5 years, 10 months ago
I try to move out of an immediate mindset and try to see a long term perspective. This too shall pass. Sometimes the stress is from the context of trying to fix something in the immediate range.
