Is you child potty trained but still wets the bed at night? Did you know that bedwetting is hereditary? So far we are lucky with our children since I had that problem as a child. So, okay, you are not the only one who does not know is possibly embarrassed by this truth. However, thankfully the bed wetting sleep disorder is curable and very rarely crosses the age of 10 years of age. In only about two percent of all the bed wetting sleep disorder cases, the patient continues this habit into adulthood. Read More

Does you toddler every so often wake you up on the middle of the night and want to sleep with you? This in itself is not necessarily a bad thing. A child coming to the parents’ room is actually a great signal that your toddler is processing what makes him or her more able to sleep. It can show great initiative and problem solving skills as he or she finds that the first scenario is not working and trys another method to get them to sleep. From there, you can help teach your toddler and encourage him or her to advance on this methodology and begin processing other ways to help get past the sleep problems in toddlers. Maybe making sure their favorite Teddy Bear is always in their room to watch over them?

Two major causes of sleep disorders in babies are behavioral problems and parasomnias. Sleep disorders in babies are many times different than the symptoms of an adult. That is why it is very important for parents and caregivers alike to be aware of this fact. Sleep disorders in babies are in fact incredibly common, and the parasomnias – sleep terrors, somnambulism and enuresis – often appear to be related to central nervous system immaturity and are therefore usually outgrown. * If there are concerns that you or someone might have ADD (attention deficit disorder), the first step is to have an evaluation done by a qualified health professional- a pediatrician, psychologist, psychiatrist, neurologist or any type of professional who is well informed about ADD and can perform a comprehensive evaluation. It is perfectly fine to ask questions about the person’s level of expertise in working with people with ADD.

Many parents, whether or not they’ve had other children, can be baffled when they realize something is wrong with their child. There are feelings of frustration and despair, as well as deep concern and indecisiveness with how to handle your child’s sleep problems.
Whether your child’s sleep problem is nightmares or wetting the bed, your child is at the forefront of your mind. When your baby wakes up with a blood-curdling scream in the middle of the night, it’s frightening. More frightening is a baby who will not be calmed with a touch, a bottle, or a new diaper. You’ll wonder what is hurting your child or if he has mild (or severe) discomfort of some kind. Read More

I have yet to find another job in the world that is more challenging then that or parenting. You are constantly faced with the questions of whether or not you are doing a good job as a parent, teaching your child the difference between right and wrong in hopes that they grow up to be productive, respectful people. This is compounded when you are raising a child that has ADHD.
I am not going to try to lecture from a medical standpoint on what to do as a parent for your child with ADHD. I am not a therapist of any sort and the medical experience that I do have is removed from what I am about to talk to you about. I am a parent and my child has ADD/ADHD. Believe me when I tell you I understand the struggle you are having right now and the guilt that you carry with you. I would bet that much like me, you were told by teachers or saw the warning signs and refused to admit that there was anything “wrong” with your child. Let me tell, there isn’t anything wrong with your child, your child with ADHD requires different things then a child that does not have ADHD.

If you have a child with ADHD you know that it can be a real. True ADHD is a neurological disorder that is controlled by medications which help re-balance the brain chemistry. I would like to try to address the issue whether or not a child has ADHD or if they have been misdiagnosed in a later article. It seems ADHD is becoming too over diagnosed when teachers or parents don’t have the time, or don’t know how to deal with a hyperactive child. True ADHD is a neurological disorder, and our parenting style needs to adjust. Keep in mind that acting impulsive, inattentive, sometimes out of control or easily distracted is all that your child has ever experienced.

Ahh, bedtime, for many of us parents who are raising children under the age of five, tends to be the most dreaded part of the day. And this is often for good reason because unless a toddler is extremely tired, he will totally resist going to sleep. This problem may be more troublesome to deal with if your little child has older brothers or sisters who tend to stay up later at night. Your child is bound to want to stay up late so that he does not “miss out” on anything that his siblings may be enjoying. And because those feelings are understandable, there is no harm in granting some extra stay-up privileges for your child. However, it is important to keep in mind that children this age need at least ten hours of sleep each night. A good nights sleep usually translates in a good day for our son. Here are some tips and guidelines that may help make the process a little bit easier.

Attachment parenting became a popular buzzword in parenting theories around twenty-five years ago, when pediatrician Dr. William Sears introduced the term. Just like the name suggests, attachment parenting is a philosophy that stresses the nurturing of a healthy bond or attachment between a parent and child. This attachment will help a child to develop a higher level of security which will translate into healthier relationships throughout life, advocates of this parenting philosophy say. There are a number of steps that go into attachment parenting, and the process begins before the child is even born. There are experts who subscribe to Dr. Sears thinking and others who find his suggestions unhelpful and even harmful to the development of a child. The best advice for a parent who is considering these types of parenting techniques is to collect the necessary information to make an informed choice that is best for everyone in the family.

The Importance Of Sleep
We all know that sleep is very important. For young children it is even more important. When we enter a deep sleep, it helps to enhance the immune system and stimulate the nervous system. When people dream, it helps to aid and enhance memory and learning. Both types of sleep are essential for childhood development. A lack of sleep can impair learning, reduce reaction time, cause moodiness, and increase the likelihood of accidents and injury.

English racer Doug Larson may have summed up your entire daily life when he quipped “For disappearing acts, it’s hard to beat what happens to the eight hours supposedly left after eight of sleep and eight of work.” In fact, how many of us even get eight hours of sleep anymore? On average, adults sleep seven hours a night, and 36% of us sleep only 6.5 hours or less. So where is all that time going?
