Happy Mothers Day from all of us at More4kids!

Lets make sure we tell our moms and the mothers of our children how special they are to us. If you are a dad, it is our job to lead by example and show them how important Mother's Day is. Start from the very moment she wakes up to the the good night kiss. This year for example, I had my 6 year old help make breakfast and serve my wife in bed. The look on her face was amazing! And I have more surprises to come as the day goes on.

What I wanted to do today is take a look at Mother's Day. Ask anyone what the most important day of the year is to them and you will get answers ranging from their birthday to Christmas to Election Day. How many will say Mother’s Day? Unfortunately, I would guess very few. For some reason Mother’s Day gets overlooked or down played a bit. Yes, there are commercials all over reminding you to send flowers or buy mom candy… but where is the real sentiment? It is so much more than a gift, or saying Happy Mother's day, it is about truly letting our moms and wives know how much they are appreciated and cared for.

I cannot think of a more thankless job. I hate to even call it a job, but it is work, with long hours, no vacations and no pay. In the end if things don’t go the way they are suppose to then it is mom’s fault. “Well mom didn’t…” or “Where was your mother when you did this…” I have said it myself standing in a public place when I see a child act out, the first thought that runs through my mind is “Where is that child’s mother!?”

With that said, being a mom is also one of the most rewarding jobs there is. Ask almost any mother out there and they will tell you that there is not a more rewarding job/role to have then to be a mother. That pride… that feeling starts the moment they find out that they are pregnant, it as if life now has a deeper meaning… and if you watch, if you pay attention you will see the woman you once knew become one of the most amazing women you will ever meet.

Without moms where would we be as a society? It is safe to say that our society would be significantly smaller, colder and more ill-mannered. It is our mom that teaches us how to nurture and how to love. It is through her guidance that we as individuals learn how to be empathetic and sympathetic to those around us. How many times have you been in a public place and seen a child get hurt and 3 or 4 moms run to the aid of that child. Obviously they are all not the child’s mother, but there is a need there… a willingness to make sure those around them are alright.

I look at the moms that I know, and I think they are all amazing in their own rights. I know that there are many days that if I was in their position I would’ve stayed in bed and covered my head with pillows to block out the existence of all around me… but a mom won’t do that. Even if a mom is sick she is up taking care of those she loves. Moms are self sacrificing… it is in their nature. I don’t think it is a trait that females are born with though… I think it is a trait that they acquire when they have a baby. Moms will go without just to make sure that their children… their husbands… their families are taken care of and have everything they need.

Moms also have the innate ability to make everything alright. You can have the worst day of your life, when you were little you’d come home from school sad over a fight that you had with your best friend at school. Mom would listen to you, wipe away your tears… and tell you how much she loved you and tell you she knew that tomorrow you and your friend would be okay… she’d give you a cookie and everything was okay. When you got older all it took was a phone call to mom, she would listen to you and her words would take all of the pain away. Moms never stop… they never get a day off… they are never really rewarded or credited for all they do.

This year, on this Mother’s Day take the time to thank your mom, and if you are a dad, the mother of our children. Let her know how much she means to you. While in the end moms believe the greatest reward for all they have done is seeing their children turn into happy successful adults… they could all use a little acknowledgment a love from us along the way.

As we grow up and move away we realize how much we miss our Mother's. As a kid my mom was always there for me. Her presence and love meant more to me than anything, and still means more to me than anything. I will be hundreds of miles away and not able to see my mom this year. It is important that she knows how much she means to me, and that toughts of her will be in my heart this Mothers day.

With love this Mothers day from your son Kevin and your grandkids. Mom, I will miss you dearly this year, you will be in my heart and the hearts of the kids. You are the greatest.

We all miss and love you Mom

Grandmas love surprises, and there is nothing more special than a homemade gift that comes from the heart, even if they don’t have a use for the gift. They know just how to fawn over present given in love. Here are a few ideas Mom and Grandchildren can work on together to make Mothers Day extra special:

1. Potpourri pies are popular in gift stores. Here’s how your little one can create a similar experience. Create this pie with a disposable pie shell. Make a bottom pie crust out of flour/salt dough. Add a potpourri that smells like your grandmother’s favorite scent, and then create a lattice pattern out of the dough. Cover the potpourri and allow the dough to harden overnight. To enjoy the potpourri, “bake” the pie in a warm oven.
    
2. What woman doesn’t love jewelry? Make Grandma a perler bead necklace. Perler beads are short pieces of plastic that are specially made to fuse together when heated with an ordinary household iron. You can buy kits at any craft store; the kits come in a variety of colors and sizes to make multiple patterns. After you have fused the beads together in whatever shape you desire (a heart would be great), why not hot glue some ribbon, sequins, or plastic gems on to make each a one-of-a-kind gift.
    
3. This is another gift that Mom will have to help make, but it could be a lot of fun for both of you. Buy at least 8 ounces of clear glycerin (you should be able to find this at a major craft store), a soap mold, and a very small bottle of lemon essential oil (or Grandma’s favorite scent). You will also need yellow food coloring, 6 tablespoons of corn meal, and 2 teaspoons of poppy seeds. Melt the glycerin according to directions, then add 2 drops of food coloring and 2 drops of lemon oil. Add the corn meal and poppy seeds and stir very well. Pour the mixture into the mold and allow it to sit until firm. Remove it from the mold and place into a small basket.
    
4. Help your child make Grandma a great pillow without having to sew. Purchase a floral polar fleece large enough to make a pillow from and some fiberfill to stuff it. Cut this out into two pieces in the shape of a heart, about two and a half inches larger than the finished project should be. Mom, carefully cut a fringe about an inch apart all around the fabric. Line up the fabric wrong sides together and then double knot each fringe, leaving a few pieces untied so you can fill the pillow. Fill the pillow and then finish filling it up, making it as fluffy as you would like. You can leave the pillow as is or decorate with paint markers, or any way your child would like to decorate it.
    
5. If you really want to tug on Grandma’s heart strings, find photos with your children and Grandma in them. Create a small memory book with the pictures in it. Have the children write the descriptions for each one, explaining what they remember about that particular time. Pre-made scrapbooks would be great for this, and your child could decorate it they like, as well.

Lets make this Mother’s Day extra special and let our mothers and grandmothers know how much we love them. Each of the above  gifts made by your children will make Grandma’s day one to remember. Not only will she know that your child loves her, but she’ll treasure each gift that was made especially for her.

Being a dad who is not a very good cook, I wanted to find something fun and nice I can do for the kids. This is what I found:

Just for Mom Fruit Salad – here is a recipe that Dad and kids can easily make for Mom and have fun doing it together.  

Ingredients:
1 can prepared lemon pie filling
12 oz. frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 – 15 oz. can tropical fruit salad, drained
1 – 15 oz. can pineapple tidbits, drained
2 – 11 oz. cans mandarin oranges, drained
2 cups fresh strawberries

Instructions:

Mix lemon pie filling and whipped topping together in a large bowl. Add fruit to mixture and chill in refrigerator from 4 hours to overnight. When ready to serve, top with fresh strawberries or fruit of your choice and whipped topping. Servings: 8

Remember dads, Mothers day is just a few weeks away, and if you have young toddlers they will need your help in making Moms day extra special. On Mother's Day its the thought that counts and actions can express love much more than expensive gifts. For younger kids its a great lesson to teach kids that money and expensive gifts don't buy love, and that love comes from the heart or buying something that has meaning and feeling behind it. Unless your kids have been saving their allowance religiously, they may not be able to afford to buy an expensive gift for Mother’s Day. However, here are some ideas for inexpensive Mother’s Day gifts.

• Set the table for dinner
• Give her a red rose and place it in her favorite vase
• Make her a special breakfast
• Take her to the park for a picnic lunch
• Bake her a cake and sing Happy Mother’s Day To You
• Take her to a movie
• Buy her favorite scented candles
• Burn her favorite CD
• Offer to do a specific chore for a week such as washing the dishes
• Make a huge Happy Mother’s Day Sign
• Give her a picture of you in a specially decorated frame
• Make a bag of potpourri using dried flowers from the garden
• Put together a scrapbook with her favorite recipes
• Make a jewelry box for her using spring ornaments
• Buy packs of herbs or flower seeds your mom could plant in the garden
• Clear out the flower bed for mom to prepare for spring planting
• Rake the leaves and make a compost pile
• Make mom a bracelet using beads from a craft store
• Make a sign for a t-shire that says “I love my mom” with an arrow pointing to the right or left
• Wash the car
• Clean your room

There are so many inexpensive ideas for Mother’s Day gifts, all of which will be appreciated no matter how small. The fact that you took the time to make a present or buy something really special says it all. So whatever you decide to do, know that it will be a keepsake mom will treasure forever.

Mother’s Day is a tradition that has been celebrated all throughout history. On this special day, Dads and kids all around the nation gather to show the mother in their life how much they appreciate and cherish them. If you are a dad that is searching out for ideas that you and the kids can use to order to achieve the goal of making mom’s day special, then this can serve as a very powerful tool and resource. Here, you will find many different creative ideas that you can put to good use. In the end, your wife will feel absolutely honored that you have taken the time to devise a way of showing her how much you and the children love and cherish her!

Memory Movie

One of the first and most impressive strategies that you can use to ensure that you are successful in making Mom’s day special is to create a memory movie. This is not a difficult task, but there are many different supplies that must be obtained in order to complete this Mother’s Day gift. These items are as follows:

• A computer with Windows Movie Maker installed
• A printer combo, or a scanner
• Family photo albums
• A song that is saved on the computer that can be used in the video
• A DVD burner – installed, or an external that can be used
• DVD recordable disk that are compatible to the DVD burner that you have
• A little bit of time, and a natural spark for creativity.

1. The first thing that you and the kids will need to do is search through the photo albums and pull out any pictures that represent special memories for the mother. Normally, this will be family pictures, pictures of the kids, marriage pictures, pictures of special occasions, etc….It is important to try to get between 50-100 pictures in order to make this Mother’s Day Gift a success!

2. Once you have all of the pictures gathered, it is now time to scan these pictures and save them on the hard drive of your computer. It is often best to create a specific folder that is designated to hold these pictures. This will make the project much easier.

3. Next, you will want to pull up the Windows Movie Maker under “Accessories” on your computer, and drag over the pictures to the project window.

4. You can customize the movie in many ways. First, you can add titles and menus, and second, you can add the song that you have saved to the project. You should do this now.

5. Once everything is set, you simply save the project as a completed video file on your computer, and then burn the movie onto a blank DVD movie disk.

The person receiving this very special Mother’s Day gift will be more than pleased at the fact that you took the time to create something so creative!

Creative Bamboo Assortment

Bamboo plants are cherished by many different individuals around the world. Seeing that most Mothers enjoy plants, making a creative bamboo assortment may be the way to go this Mother’s Day! The Bamboo is considered to be relatively fortunate when it comes to the receiver. Seeing that this plant always displays a bright green coloring, it is believed that the individual who plays host as the owner of this plant is said to receive a good, healthy, long life. In Chinese cultures, it is referred to as the “symbol of life”. The following details the items that you will need to create this unique Mother’s Day gift:

• A single bamboo plant
• A fishbowl like container that stands about half as high as the total length of the plant
• Some seashells
• Glitter glue
• Water 
• Computer with internet access
• Printer

1. You will want to start by covering the large shells with glitter glue. It is important to set these shells to the side so that they may dry.

2. Now, you will want to place the remaining shells in the fishbowl like container that you are using.

3. Once the larger shells have dried, place them around the inner glass in the bowl so that they are facing out. It is important to line the entire inside of the inner glass in this manner.

4. Now, you should stick the single bamboo plant in the center of the shells.

5. You will then add water, and move on to step 6.

6. Go online and find a poem about Mother’s Day, love, life, lessons, or even luck for a good, healthy, and long life. When you find one that you especially like, print it out.

7. Now, you should place the print out in a card, and present it with the creative Bamboo assortment.

Give the Gift of Love, and Save the Environment Too!

There is a lot of talk in today’s world about “going green”, “global warming”, and being “environmentally correct”. What better way to save the environment than to give the gift of love? All you have to do is select a plant, plant it in honor of the mother that you and the kids are providing the gift too, and have a personalized medium sized stone engraved to place in front of it!

1. First, you will need to purchase either a plant or a tree that is designed to grow in a lawn.

2. Once you have gathered the plant, be sure to purchase soil and plant food. This will enhance the overall growth of your plant.

3. Next, you will want to plant a tree planting, or plant planting ceremony for the special woman in your life. This is really simple. Everyone should just jot down some things that they want to say, such as a review of memories or why they appreciate mom.

4. Schedule the ceremony on Mother’s Day. Allow everyone to say what they want to say.

5. When Mother’s Day draws near, have a small stone engraved that relate to the woman. It can say “mom” of the name.

6. Once the ceremony begins, allow everyone to speak. Then, inform the lady in your life, that you will now be planting a tree or plant in honor of her and allow her to watch.

7. Once the plant and/or tree are planted, place the small engraved stone in front of it.

In Summary 

There are many ways to make Mom’s day special. Remember, it is not the monetary cost of something that you should concern yourself with, it is the cost of failing to show another how much you love and truly appreciate them.

I found this poem which touched an emotion I would like to share. You see, I was adopted. As the poem points out, a mom is much more than simply 'blood'. The love a mom gives to her adopted or foster child is truely a love from the heart. It takes a very special, loving person to adopt or foster a child. • Prepare the table for dinner
• Do the laundry
• Take her to the park for a picnic lunch

• Bake her a cake or favorite cookies
• Take her to a movie
• Buy her favorite bath oil and some candles
• Make a special card using the computer
• Offer to do a specific chore for a week
• Make a huge Happy Mother’s Day Sign

You know, moms are special in so many ways. Unselfish, kind, loving, caring; and these are qualities we sometimes take for granted. Mom probably doesn’t expect anything for Mother’s Day, which is why anything an older kid does for mom would be appreciated beyond belief. All mom wants is love and respect.

While the kids may not have the money to but some of the items listed above, their ingenuity will see them through. Whatever your kids decide to do to celebrate your special day, know they have thought about it and whether the gift is large or small, it comes from the heart.

It is up to us to make this mothers day extra special for both the love of our lives and our children. It is our way to show our wives how much they are appreciated, a time to dote on them, and a time to bond with our kids to make moms day extra special. There are a number of Mother’s Day ideas for younger kids to become involved in. Let’s explore and look a few of them.

First of all, there are a number of Mother’s Day books which younger kids can read to their moms to celebrate the day. In addition, if your child attends pre-school, the teacher may have each of the kids make hand prints as a gift for their moms. Or the child can be helped making flowers using construction paper.

Children love to make gifts for parents. These are just a few of the things younger kids can do to show their love on Mother’s Day. Here are a few more ideas.

• Dad can make breakfast for mom and the younger child can bring it to mom’s room and surprise her.
• Make Mother’s Day signs and hang them around the home.
• Write a letter to Mom on colorful paper.
• Make a Mother’s Day card.
• Dad can go online and print out a Mother’s Day template for kids to color and present to mom.
• The kids may offer to do certain chores for a week.
• If age appropriate, the kids could make signs and glue them on to t-shirts.
• Use construction paper to make a hanging sign spelling out the word love.
• There is an award template which can be printed out and given to mom.

There are a myriad of other great ideas in which younger kids can show mom how much they are loved. Kids are creative, and they may come up with other Mother’s Day ideas or activities as well. Perhaps dad can take the child out to the garden and choose a rose to give to mom.

Mother’s day ideas for younger kids, depending upon their age, can encompass a variety of creative and thoughtful presents. Dad, ask your kids what they would like to do, and offer your assistance. Have fun making secret plans with your child. They will love you for it. Make this day special for mom. You know, she sure deserves it!
